My boyfriend, however, thought it would be funny to play a prank on me. He told me he knows this online tarot application that knows “EVERYTHING”. Of course, I was skeptical, but when I told him what question to type and the application started spitting out personal things about me (like how I feel about something, and what my name is and where I work for what wage), I knew there must be someone behind this all! My intuition was right. I just didn’t know exactly what was going on and how.
The Peter Answers application is quite a marvel. The person is required to “petition” first, before typing the question. Here’s the catch, it has to be the person playing the prank doing the typing. While typing the petition, the person can press the “.” button on their keyboard. At this point, no one can see what you’re typing, thus they can type the answer. Pressing the “.” button again will get you out of that mode and back to typing the petition. If you type fast enough, the person witnessing this doesn’t notice that you’ve typed more letters on that keyboard than you were supposed to for a simple petition.
For those who don’t know Peter Answers’ secret, the application automatically spits out random answers that are not quite as colorful and accurate. If you want to know how this JavaScript code works, someone wrote a detailed blog entry about it.
Well, time to test this out on your friends. Enjoy a good laugh.
